World premiere of a documentary about Sonya Yoncheva funded under the “Culture” Programme of Sofia Municipality

The 32nd edition of Cinemania will present the world premiere of a documentary about the great opera singer Sonya Yoncheva, Sempre Libera. The film will be launched today, November 26th at 19:00 hrs. in the Lumiere Lidl cinema theatre. The film is funded under the “Culture” Programme of Sofia Municipality.  

The Opera Star arrived in Bulgaria especially for the premiere of the film dedicated to her life and progression to the most promising soprano in the world nowadays. She returned after her successful tour in Latin America where she sang in the biggest concert halls in Mexico and Chile.


For more than two years, a film crew led by journalist and producer Georgi Toshev followed Sonya Yoncheva worldwide - London, New York, Milan, Munich, Vienna, Plovdiv, Sofia - are part of the places where are sealed moments of triumph and doubt, of joy and sadness.

The film follows the rush of Sonya's daily events and her triumphant procession on the biggest stages. The hotel room, the dressing room, her father's house, the train and some of the world's largest opera theatres, such as Metropolitan, Covent Garden, La Scala and the Vienna State Opera turn into a movie set.

Sonya Yoncheva allowed the team in the very intimate world of her life, family, professional and personal friendships.

Besides Sonya, the production features also Placido Domingo, Antonio Pappano, Valery Gergiev, Massimo Zanetti, Michael Fabiano, Tomas Hampson and Temenuga Yoncheva

Director and producer of the film is Georgi Toshev, Rumen Vasilev and Ivo Staynov are cameramen, editing director and co-script-writer, together with Georgi Toshev is Emma Konstantinova.

Cinemania is part of the 2018 Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia Municipality.
