An exhibition dedicated to architect Vasil Kitov is being shown by the Regional History Museum in Sofia (RIM-Sofia) on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of his birth. The opening is on January 30, according to the organizers

The exhibition is entitled "Architect Vasil Kitov - The Restorer" and will last until May 7. It includes original projects, photographs, awards, diplomas and honors. Compilers of the exhibition are the architects Valentina Varbanova, Sofia Lostova-Topalova, Kristina Skrizhovska and other collaborators of RIM-Sofia.
During the opening of the exhibition, a film on the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) about the construction of the underground museum under the Hagia Sophia basilica is planned to be screened.
"Architect Vasil Kitov worked with the History Museum of Sofia for decades. He was not only a colleague, but also a great friend of the museum. Known for his modesty and boundless workaholism, he was the author of many of Sofia's significant cultural monuments," RIM-Sofia writes. They add that his projects and his large scientific documentation are kept in the museum's archive after his donation in 2006.
Vasil Kitov (1944-2013) is a Bulgarian architect, a specialist in the field of restoration from the second half of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century. Among his restoration projects are the Boyan Church, the Church of St. Mother of God" in the Dragalev Monastery, the basilica "St. Sofia", the church "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" in Sofia, the central synagogue in the capital, the building of the National Assembly, the churches "St. George" and "St. St. Constantine and Elena" in Edirne, the Bulgarian Metoh and Exarchia in Istanbul and others.
As a designer at the National Institute for Cultural Monuments (NIPC, today the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage), he worked on the implementation of over 90 sites for the conservation, adaptation and restoration of houses and churches in Melnik, Bansko, Samokov, Sofia, etc., as well as and at archaeological sites in Sofia, Mezdra and the old town in Nessebar.
