The Palace of the Holy Synod


The seat  of the Holy Synod of Bulgarian Orthodox Church was built  in 1910 – 1912 after the design of architects P. Momchilov and Y. Milanov.

The compound comprises administrative buildings, conference hall, the Chapel of St Tsar Boris Mihail, and a residential wing.

The sumptuous facade adorned with majolica friezes and moscais  was the work of decorative artist Haralambi Tachev.

The images of three eminent persons who fougth for independent church – Ilarion Makariopolski, Avxenty Veleshki and Paisiy Plovdivski – are dеpicted above the entrance.
