“With infinite respect and true admiration of all that has been done and that you are doing for Sofia“. This message was dedicated to the Mayor of Sofia Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova by the Italian magistrate Alfonso Sabella.
During his conversation with Mayor Fandakova, Alfonso Sabella expressed his good impressions from Sofia, mentioning that it was his second visit to the Bulgarian capital. “And now I see an enormous change, development, a well-organized city with a new vision“.
During the meeting they discussed combating corruption and the measures, taken by mayors to limit bad practices. “We are focusing our efforts on relieving the bureaucratic burden and on introducing more e-services“, Mayor Fandakova said during the meeting. According to her, strict control is of utmost importance, as well as the incorporation of stringent sanctions in the contracts, including the option of termination for poor performance.
Alfonso Sabella joined actively the most ambitious fight of the state against the mafia, as a part of the team of the prosecutor Giovanni Falcone in the “Clean Hands” Operation . Later he worked as an adviser on the transparency in the management of public funds to the Mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino. He is now in Sofia for the premier of his book “Infected Capital“, in which he presents various successful practices in fighting mafia and corruption.
