The first of 20 new subway trains that will serve the third metro line was delivered in Sofia The consortium of Siemens and Newag produce the trains for the third line.

The first train was tested in Germany. It headed for Sofia on June 25, hauled mainly at night by special transport for oversized loads.

The trains are highly energy efficient and because of their lightweight design, they have lower energy consumption.  

We are currently building two sections of the third subway line. It is envisaged that the first 8 km of the third line (from “Vladimir Vazov” Blvd. to “Krasno Selo”) will be launched in 2019 and the next 4 km that will pass through “Ovcha Kupel” to the Gorna Banya Ring Road - in 2020.
