“This year, the traditional Sofia bicycle procession, which will be held next Saturday (March 31st), will call to change our private cars for bicycle or outdoor walks. The topic of the personal contribution of each of us for improving air quality is extremely important, so I am particularly grateful to the organizers of Sofia 2018 - European Capital of Sport that this year they have chosen to draw the attention of the participants in this direction”, said Deputy Mayor of Ecology at Sofia Municipality, Ioana Hristova.
She highlighted that the extension of the cycling network is a priority of Sofia Municipality and reminded that 55 km have already been built. She reminded also that the forthcoming deployment of 33 bicycle stop stands in the city for renting bicycles would increase considerably the use of bicycles in urban environments. “Furthermore, we shouldn’t forget that the parks and gardens in Sofia are over 22 000 decares and also provide opportunities for active movement, sport and a healthier way of life”, said Hristova and urged all who have bicycles, if they have not yet taken them out of the winter bike park, to use the occasion - the Sofia bicycle procession on Saturday - and take them out for active use.
