From December 22, 2018, newly refurbished buses will go to Vitosha Mountain. They will serve public transport lines 63 and 66.
"We will meet the new winter season with refurbished buses, which will be launched tomorrow and I hope that they will be much more comfortable for people, as they have almost three times more seats and more luggage compartments", said the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova.
The buses are suitable for mountainous terrain, with large luggage compartments that can accommodate ski equipment, snowboards and sporting articles. They have 60 seats, which is three times more than the seats in those currently serving the line. In total, the places are over 80 - 60 sitting and 22 standing.
The refurbished buses are air-conditioned and meet the requirements of the Euro 5 emission standard.
The modernization of urban transport is part of the measures to improve air quality.
Currently, 20 electric buses with zero emissions to the environment run in Sofia on lines 9 and 309.
60% of buses have been replaced so far, and next year the percentage of new buses on city lines will reach 90%.
The deputy Chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council, Nikolai Stoynev, Municipal Councillors, Zafir Zarkov, and Anatoli Iliev, and the Director of the Sofia Auto Transport, Slav Monov attended the event.
