“I congratulate you on the renovation of the American College building. To me, education is a priority and every investment in education returns many times”, said the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, at the opening of the renovated building of the American College in Sofia in the presence of US Ambassador, Eric Rubin, the President of America for Bulgaria, Nancy Schiller, students and teachers.
Mayor Fandakova congratulated all students because the investment they have made in their personal life will also return repeatedly. "The American College is one of the best schools in Sofia. You are making even more effort to complete successfully and continue your education”, said also Fandakova. The mayor thanked the America for Bulgaria Foundation, which has invested BGN 2.5 million in the modernization of 10 schools in Sofia.
"Bulgaria can be successful only by investing in education and investing in people. And the efforts to do so are worthwhile", also highlighted Mrs. Fandakova.
The investment of Sofia Municipality in educational infrastructure for the last years is over BGN 360 million. There are 231 general education schools in Sofia. In the recent years, with funds from the municipal budget were built 3 new schools and another 4 are planned.
Over the past few years, about 10 000 students graduate every year from secondary schools in the capital. Students in Sofia are performing best at graduation exams, traditionally showing the highest average score.
