Deputy Mayor of Sofia, Yoanna Hristova, talked with EU Commissioner for Environment, Karmenu Vella

Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality, Yoanna Hristova, participated in a meeting with the Commissioner for Environment in the European Commission, Karmenu Vella, dedicated to the measures Bulgaria is taking to improve air quality after the condemning judgement for the country of the European Court of April 2017.

At the meeting hosted by the Minister of Environment and Water, Neno Dimov, Mrs. Hristova provided detailed information to the Commissioner and her team on the measures taken by Sofia Municipality to reduce and maintain in the normal range the emissions of particulate matter in the air of Sofia. She highlighted actions taken both to reduce transport emissions and to improve the attractiveness of urban transport and those taken to reduce emissions from home heating.

The pollution forecasting system with a range of incidence of 48 hours is ready and currently is finalized the mechanism, which will regulate specific actions in case of possible projected exceedances. After agreeing it with the Sofia Municipal Council, an online application for maximum accessibility of information will be developed and presented to the public.
