Sofia Synagogue

The Sofia Synagogue was built in the period 1905-1909 according to the design of the Austrian architect Friedrich Grunanger.

Today it is the only Jewish Prayer House in the capital.

The Sofia synagogue is the biggest Sephardic synagogue in Europe. It was built in a neo-Mauritanian style with elements of German art nouveau. The height of the cupola is 23 metres and the diameter is 19 metres.

On the second floor there is a museum of the history of Jewish people, as well as their rescue during World War II.
