Ninth edition of Sofia Paper Art Fest

Ninth edition of Sofia Paper Art Fest
16th April-26th May

Sofia Paper Art Fest is being presented for the ninth consecutive time, in the period 16th April-26th May, under the title GLOBAL WORLD.

The project is a part of The Cultural calendar of Sofia.

The concept for this year’s edition will include guest exhibitions from different parts of the world, Bulgarian and foreign independent projects, debuts, competitions, demonstrations, presentations and announcements for future long-term exchange projects in cooperation with partnering foreign organisations. The event will include 8 expositions at 6 locations and a program of accompanying events.

The exhibitions will present over 150 artists from 28 countries in different expositions. Important guest formats will be shown from Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia and Japan - countries with unique cultures, of priority for SOFIA PAPER ART FEST in 2019. These expositions are organised in cooperation with the Embassies of Argentina, Brazil and Indonesia, and are a part of initiated long-term exchanges with these countries. In the travelling programme of the Festival abroad, there will be expositions in Argentina and Brazil in June and in Japan in September. The Japanese Embassy is a traditional partner of SPAF and during the programme, a new project will be announced, with a focus on Japanese culture and art, as well as the competition for students and undergraduates - Japan Bowl.

The event with the largest scale at SPAF 2019 is the annual competition, which through the years started off as a small event, but grew into an exposition with larger art pieces. The host of this format will once again be the National Palace of Culture (NPC), which is a long-standing partner of the festival since 2016, and it is an important place for art and culture.

We live in a global world and this inevitably reflects in the work of artists from every part of the world, regardless of the type of art with which they express themselves. And this is its purpose- unity in diversity, humanism and spiritual messages. The programme is balanced between the group and independent projects. At the different locations, pieces are shown with different concept united under the focus of globalisation of ideas, vision and values. This makes the 2019 edition with deeper content than the previous ones, and with long-term goals for multicultural global dialogue. The locations are also diverse in their essence and are selected in unison with the concepts of the exhibits.
