The First Evangelical Cathedral Church was consecrated on the 17th June 1889. The building was destroyed during the bombardments in January 1944 and was rebuilt in the same style after the war.

At the beginning of the 20th century an Evangelical orphanage was founded in addition to the church and was closed in 1948.

This churchheads the Union of Evangelical Churches, an organisation representing the first evangelical Churches in Bulgaria.
