"The Wild Heart of Sofia" a photography exhibition in the Open Air Gallery

From October 24 to November 7, in the Open Air Gallery in the park in front of the National Palace of Culture (in the alley next to the Cabana cinema), the photography exhibition "The Wild Heart of Sofia", dedicated to the Zoo – Sofia, is on display.

It features the zoo's newest and most exotic inhabitants, raised in a near-natural environment. Rare and endangered species such as tigers, snow and Persian leopards, dwarf hippopotamus, woolly bear, antelopes, gibbons, vultures, hornbills and other inhabitants of the zoo, photographed by various photographers, impress with their beauty and diversity. The new Indian elephants Frosya and Louisa, who arrived in Sofia in September, are also presented in the exhibition. All these animals coexist in the wild heart of Sofia – the zoo, which is home to over 250 species of animals from all over the world and is the largest and oldest on the Balkan Peninsula.

In 2023, the Zoological Garden – Sofia celebrates 135 years since its foundation in 1888, when by a special decree Prince Ferdinand allocated land for the construction of a Royal Zoo in the capital. Today, the Sofia Zoo is one of the most modern in the region and is developing in accordance with modern trends as an educational, nature conservation and cultural center. Since 2023, the Sofia Zoo is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums and participates in more than 25 programs for breeding and restoring endangered species.
