FRAGMENTS OT SOFIA – Photo exhibition of Elina Ninova

After “Sofia – a City of Crossroads” and “Sofia in Four Seasons”, this is my third solo exhibition dedicated to Sofia. I show in it various fragments of buildings – decorative elements, sculptures, reliefs, the small things that often go unnoticed but create the unique appearance of each city.
Most of the buildings whose fragments I present were built after the Liberation, at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, when Sofia became a real European city and architects from Europe or Bulgarians who graduated there from prestigious universities worked here.
One of the photographs makes an exception and shows the skilful combination of old architecture and modern art. This is the “bird dome” on Moskovska Str. The presence of various figures, faces and elements on the old facades of Sofia, made by both famous sculptors and  unknown masters, is impressive, and there is no way they can be collected within the framework of one exhibition.
The image of the lion is also very common, present in front of various buildings or on the bridge of the same name.
I have tried to show some of the colours and variety of Sofia doors and windows, collected in two collages. In the 21st century architectural concepts are different and glass facades conquer more and more urban spaces. Old buildings with their ornamentation and individuality are becoming more and more valuable and it is our duty to preserve them for future generations said Elina Ninova.

The project was realized with the support of Sofia Municipality.
