Since 2003, the National History Museum is located at the foot of Vitosha, in House 1 of the government residence in Boyana neighbourhood. It is one of the richest and most interesting museums on the Balkans. It contains hundreds of thousands of monuments of Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage dating from prehistoric ages until the present day.

The exhibits are arranged in 5 large halls and temporary exhibitions are held in a few smaller halls. Among the most famous collections is the Panagyurishte golden treasure dating from the IV century BC associated with the Thracian king Seuthes.
