Launch of the Free Compost Campaign

On February 12, for the fourth consecutive year, the Municipality of Sofia will launch its campaign to provide up to 10kg of free compost to all citizens who have paid a ‘household waste’ tax.

The compost is produced by processing of bio and green urban waste at the Han Bogrov Facility for Biological Treatment at the Sofia Municipal Waste Treatment Plant. A natural soil enhancer retains moisture and helps plants quickly and easily to absorb nutrients. In 2017, 20.57 tons of high-quality compost were distributed free of charge to citizens, and fro 2015 and 2016, the total quantity was over 21 tons.

We would like to remind that in 2014, the biological treatment facility at the Han Bogrov site was put into operation consisting of biodegradable waste composting plant and composting plant for green waste. The total capacity of the facility is 44 000 tons / year. With our plants, we produce resources from waste - electricity and compost. In 2017, for the food and green waste composting plants, we report as follows:

13 927 tonnes of green bio-waste and 8 558 tonnes of food bio-waste were processed;
8876 tonnes of compost was produced

2 108 MWh of electricity was produced.

All interested citizens will be able to receive compost every working day, in the period from 12.02.2018 until 31.12.2018 from 10 am to 5 pm on the territory of the Han Bogrov site.
