Обратно Opening of the Bulgarian Film Runaway Smartphone, Produced with the Support of Sofia Municipality

Bulgarian children's cinema marks a new rise, and the proof is one of the most anticipated teenage movies - Runaway Smartphone. The film made its world premiere at the Artisan International Festival in Cannes in 2018. It was also featured in two other international film festivals in Stuttgart and Sochi. From February 8, it will be released in the cinema theatres in Bulgaria, Austria and Switzerland.

The action of Runaway Smartphone revolves around the adventures of the teenagers Phil (Simeon Filipov), Angie (Vassilena Stoyanova) and Marco (Matey Genchev), who have to find money for the treatment of Angie's sick brother.  After their efforts are sabotaged, the three friends go in search of the Chieftain Valchan's buried treasure. A magical smartphone, however, turns out to be a time machine and takes them back into the past - amid fearsome haiduks. Furthermore, the journey through the centuries is not one-way.

The idea to make a children's adventure movie was spontaneously born three years ago. According to the producer, Zlatina Filipova, there is a ‘hunger’ for this genre in Bulgaria. Together with the director, Maxim Genchev, they decided to create a story about travel in time, carrying the adventures in the past (with a courtesy to history), the future and the present. "Let's revive the tradition of the good Bulgarian children's cinema", they invoke and thank the full cast and crew for the dedication, talent and professionalism.

The Runaway Smartphone was shot in Sofia with the support of Sofia Municipality through its film committee, established in 2015, in connection with the Capital’s title Sofia -Creative City of Film. Prohodna Cave is one of the filming sites.
