The Sofia Metropolitan received a distinction for the best transport service to the citizens. The certificate is awarded by the EU Business Awards. 

The subway is the best and most environmentally friendly transport. In the recent years the expansion of the Sofia subway has not stopped. For the 10-year period, about 30 km of new subway lines have been built. Now, we are building another 12 km of the third line. By the end of 2019, the first 8 km from the third line will be launched: from “Vladimir Vazov” Blvd. in Poduyane district through Oborishte, Eagles’ Bridge, City centre, the National Palace of Culture, Alexandrovska Hospital to Krasno Selo. In the first half of 2020, the second stage of the traffic will be launched - 4 km with 4 subway stations, from Krasno Selo district through residential area "Ovcha Kupel" to the Ring Road in Gorna Banya district.

The launch of the third line will save about 90 thousand tons of exhaust emissions per year
