The integrated urban transport project in Sofia will be financed with over BGN 125 million. The project includes rehabilitation of tramways, supply of new trams and upgrade of the intelligent traffic management system and the existing real-time passenger information system.

The Government adopted a decision assigning to the Head of the Managing Authority of the Operational Program "Regions in Growth" 2014-2020 at the MRDPW to sign a grant agreement to the benefit of Sofia Municipality. It is worth BGN 125 485 941.89, where European grant funds amount to BGN 107 333 495, while the remaining amount is co-financed with funds of Sofia Municipality.

The rehabilitation of several tramway sections, including the line along “Tsar Boris III” Blvd., and the purchase of 13 low-floor, articulated tramcars, are due to begin.

Within the first phase of the integrated urban transport project, the trolleybus fleet was upgraded to 90%, electronic information boards were supplied and a tramway rail track was reconditioned.
