Back Fifty green hearts on traffic lights in Sofia for Earth Hour

Today, 50 traffic lights in the centre of Sofia glow as green hearts throughout the day to remind us of the personal contribution of each of us to environmental protection. Moreover, with them Sofia Municipality reminds the citizens to participate in Earth Hour, and within one hour, between 20:30 and 21:30 hours to turn off their lights.

With this and other initiatives, Sofia Municipality joins the 10th edition of the global initiative, and this year the activities are not only for an hour but all day long. Besides the traditional extinguishing the lights of significant municipal buildings, Sofia Municipality extends the pedestrian zone for the whole day on Saturday and closes for cars “Battenberg” Square from "G. S. Rakovski" Str. to "Knyaz Alexander Batenberg" Str.

Two initiatives are held in parallel in the square throughout the day - a farm market for a variety of organic products from all over the country and again a mobile collection point is set up for old electrical and electronic equipment.

The Farm Market, "From our Farm - with Love for You!" offers a rich variety of organic and homemade foods of small producers from different parts of the country and its implementation is a joint initiative between WWF - Bulgaria and Bioselena Foundation for Organic Farming. It will be open between 10:00 and 18:00 hours.

At the mobile point for collecting old equipment, all who wish to do so will be able to dispose of their obsolete or outdated electrical appliances, regardless of their size. Ecobultech AD, a company for recycling and treatment of waste products, with which Sofia Municipality has a contract, will recycle the appliances. The mobile point will operate between 10:00 and 16:00 hours.

The citizens and the guests of Sofia are invited to the traditional extinction of lights for Earth Hour and its accompanying fire show featuring the Fire and Shadow Theatre Fireter and the Divinitas Fire Show in front of the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov" at 20:30 hours.
