Fandakova: We invest more than BGN 20 million to restore the utilization of the mineral waters of Sofia

We invest over BGN 20 million to restore the utilization of the mineral water of Sofia. We revive emblematic Mineral Baths, one of which is the building in Bankya. This said the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, during the inspection of the construction works of the bath building in Bankya together with the Deputy Mayor, Associate Professor Todor Chobanov and the Mayor of Bankya, Rangel Markov.

This year, we have provided BGN 20 million for the restoration of the bath in Bankya, the bath in Ovcha Kupel and for the construction of the first municipal aqua park with mineral water of 25 decares to the new Vazrazhdane Park, pointed out Yordanka Fandakova.

Half of the restoration and construction works of the bath in Bankya are completed and next year it will open for visitors. Together with the restoration of the pools, we are also building a heating installation for the entire building with mineral water. We are also planning to build a 25-meter swimming pool at level -1.

Mayor Fandakova also reminded that, at her request, the state has transferred to the municipality the baths in Ovcha Kupel and Gorna Banya. The aim is to invest in restoration of the buildings and restoration of balneological and spa activities in the pools.

The bath in Bankya was opened in 1911; it was built to the order of King Ferdinand and was designed by the German Professor Hocheder. At that time, it was then the largest and most modern balneological centre in Eastern Europe.

Currently repair works are performed on the different parts of the building in Bankya. The façades and the roof are being restored; electrical installations, water supply and sewage installation, ventilation system and pools are being repaired. Staircases and elevator are built. The royal tubs, the changing rooms and the flooring, which are made of ceramics dating from the beginning of the last century, will also be restored.

Along with the restoration of the building, the Mayor of Bankya and his team have the task to analyse and propose a working management model. Currently, five options are being discussed and analysed, explained the Mayor of Banka, Rangel Markov.

In the Vazrazhdane Park an aqua park and an indoor swimming pool with mineral water are being built and are planned to be completed by the end of this year.
