The first 8 km of the third subway line - from “Krasno Selo” to the city center and to “Vladimir Vazov” Blvd. - will be put into operation by the end of the year. Already 18 of the 20 new trains for the third beam have been delivered in Sofia. They are produced by Siemens and achieve up to 25% energy savings. The whole third line has a new generation of controls, automation and safety systems. This said the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, during an on-site inspection together with the Executive Director of Sofia Subway, Prof. Stoyan Bratoev.

The new depot in “Zemlyane” is completely ready. The railroad of the two subway stations “Krasno Selo” and “Bulgaria” is 100% completed. During the second stage of the third line - 4 km from “Krasno Selo” via “Ovcha Kupel” to “Gorna Banya”, the works will be completed in the next year and the subway will be put into operation.

The stations on the third line are equipped with glass walls on the platforms as part of the safety measures. They open automatically when trains stop at the stations.

With the new 12 km of the subway another 11 thousand tons of harmful emissions per year will be avoided. It will be used by 130 thousand people daily and will reduce to 25% the traffic in the areas through which it passes, said also Mayor Fandakova. 

According to Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, along with the subway, we are also changing the ground infrastructure in the areas through which it passes. Currently, a procedure for overall reconstruction of “Zhitnitsa” Str. Is running, unfortunately there is a delay due to appeals against compulsory purchases of private property. Our aim is by the end the year, together with the subway to complete the intersection of "Gotse Delchev" Blvd. and "Tsar Boris III" Blvd. as well as the overall reconstruction of “Zhitnitsa” Str. In cooperation with Sofia Subway we reconstruct completely “Tsentralna” Str. in the area of “Ovcha Kupel”.
