Sofia’s Mayor Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, the Minister of the Bulgarian Presidency Lilyana Pavlova and His Excellency Mr. Jaap Werner, Acting Ambassador of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, earlier today planted the bulbs of tulips, which will form a flower mosaic in the park of the National Palace of Culture (NPC). IN the Spring the Dutch tulips will shape the logo of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

“The flower figure is a sign of cooperation and partnership between the Netherlands and Bulgaria, between Amsterdam and Sofia. It is one of the ways we are supporting the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU”, said His Excellency Mr. Jaap Werner.

Mayor Fandakova used the occasion to thank also the former Ambassador of the Netherlands in Bulgaria– Mr. Tom van Oorschot, with whom this project was agreed and the Mayor of Amsterdam – Eberhard van der Laan. “Amsterdam is one of the best examples of a host city for the Presidency of the Council of the EU”, Mrs. Fandakova said.

“The flower figure will be seen by citizens of Sofia and by all the visitors of the city. Sofia is a green city and in recent years it has also been developing as a colourful city, full of flowers. At present over 300 000 bulbs of spring flowers are being planted in Sofia’s parks, and these bulbs include Dutch tulips. We have also commenced the autumn planting of over 1300 trees along boulevards, streets and parks”, Mayor Fandakova added.

Minister Lilyana Pavlova said that flowers symbolize beauty and thanked for the support for the Bulgarian Government. The good presentation with the logo of the Presidency and the visual identity are very important.
