The construction of the Center of Excellence of "St. Kliment Ohridski” Sofia University has begun

Sofia holds 88% of the information and communication technology sector. The economy based on technology and innovation guarantees the development of the city and attracts educated and talented people. It is very important that the project of Sofia University for the establishment of a Center of Excellence under the "Science and Education for Smart Growth" OP, which was prepared and defended in previous years, will develop high-tech scientific infrastructure. This is what the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova said while attending the announcement event for the launching of the construction of a Center of Excellence in ICT at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of "St. Kliment Ohridski” Sofia University. The event was also attended by the Rector of the University Prof. Anastas Gerzhdikov and the Minister of Education Prof. Nikolay Denkov.

The Center of Excellence will be located at the Lozenets Campus next to the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics.

Investments like the one in building a modern scientific infrastructure, enhance Sofia's capacity for attracting young people to study here and large companies to operate in our city, said Mayor Fandakova.

The project is supported through the "Science and Education for Smart Growth", Operational Program and partners of Sofia University are the Technical University - Sofia, "Angel Kanchev" University of Ruse, "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” University of Burgas, “Bishop Konstantin Preslavski” University of Shumen.

The project envisages the establishment and development of a Center of Excellence of the distributed research infrastructure type, meeting the requirements for a high level of research in the "Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)" priority area.
