The Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, awarded National Sports Academy’s rector a mace, in celebration of Academy’s patronal festival.

We are successfully developing conditions for exercising sports in the city, focusing on the children and youth sports, and we support the organization of sports events. In recent years the Sofia Municipality supported over sports events, and many of them were organized jointly with the NSA. Commented the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka  Fandakova. As part of the celebrations of National Sports Academy’s patronal festival, the Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, awarded a mace to Academy’s rector – Prof. Pencho Geshev. The mace symbolizes the academic traditions of spiritual freedom and acknowledges Academy’s autonomy, the power of human spirit and the power of knowledge.

Mayor Fandakova congratulated the lecturers and students on the occasion and also presented an award for a research project in the area of sports, with a significant social and public contribution, to Hristo Velchev a fourth-year student at the Academy, majoring in Basketball.

“Thank you for your support of the development of sports in Sofia. The NSA provides the best qualified individuals to infuse the sports spirit and diligence in our children“, continued Fandakova.

In recent years, the Sofia Municipality encourages the development of the children and youth sports through the programme for co-funding of sports clubs’ children programmes, as 70 clubs received support this year. According to Fandakova about 20 gyms have been built and by 2021 all schools within the Sofia Municipality will have gyms. We are also planning to build 6 multifunctional sports halls in the years of schools in the different districts, further commented the Mayor.

The event was also attended by the Deputy-Mayor of Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Todor Chobanov, PhD.
