Back Fandakova inspected the construction of a centre for contemporary art on the site of the former heat plant

The transformation of the building of the former heat plant for the development of a centre for contemporary art is being implemented, and the project envisages the construction works to be completed at the beginning of next year. That’s what the mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova said during an inspection of the site.

The role of artists is very important for the development of the centre, Fandakova also pointed out. Malina Edreva, chair of the Commission for Education, Culture, Science and Cultural Diversity at the Sofia Municipal Council, also attended the inspection.

In order to clarify the functions of the site, a number of discussions were held and dozens of representatives of artists and creative organizations worked for the cause.

The project was selected after an international competition with the participation of over 60 teams, evaluated by an international jury. The new centre will contain a multifunctional hall, a chamber hall for performances and for visual arts. The idea is the Centre for Contemporary Art Toplotsentrala to be intended not only directly for the artists and the audience, but also to the visitors of the park as a place for recreation, meetings and culture. In many of the areas – indoor and outdoor – opportunities will be sought for organization of various event formats, exhibitions, etc.
