Back The Star of the “Octopus” Series and the Author of “Three Meters Below the Sky” – Guests of the Festival of Italian Cinema in Sofia
The initiative is held under the patronage of the Ministry of culture, the Embassy of Italy, Sofia Municipality in its capacity of UNESCO’s “Creative city of cinema”
The third installment of the festival of Italian cinema in Bulgaria took place from June 11th to June 16th in Sofia. To be presented are ten movies, selected in collaboration with foundation “Apulia Film Commission”, they will be shown from June 11 to June 13th at ”Lumière Lidl” cinema, and from June 14th to June 16th – at “Dom na kinoto” where the sale of the corresponding tickets will begin soon. A large part of these movies have been awarded with some of the most prestigious film awards in Italy.
The press-conference will take place at 11:00 AM on June 11th at “Marinella Hotel”, “Silhouette” hall. Among the invited press-conference participants are the deputy-minister of culture of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Roumen Dimitrov, Stephano Valdi, ambassador of Italy, associate professor Todor Chobanov, deputy-mayor of Sofia in sector “Culture, education, sport and prevention of addictions”, Mr. Marko Monteki, president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, Mrs. Jana Karaivanova, executive director of the National Film Center, Borislav Velkov, head of the Board of directors of the national Palace of Culture, Mrs. Jana Jakovleva, director of the Bulgarian cultural institute in Rome, Mr. Antonio Parente, director of foundation “Apulia Film Commission”, and the artistic director of the third installment of the festival of Italian cinema in Bulgaria Mr. Nikola di Túlio.
After the press-conference the festival will open at 18:30 with the show of the playful comedy QuoVado? (“Where are you going to?”) at ”Lumière Lidl” cinema at the National Palace of Culture.
At 20:00 on June 13th at ”Lumière Lidl” cinema will be awarded honorary plaques of the Third Festival of Italian cinema in Bulgaria, followed by the show of the film “Rudi Valentino”,which tells the story of the renowned Italian silent film actor. Among those present will be Loredana Capone, assessor of the cultural and tourist industry of the region of Puglia and the film director Niko Cirasola. This year the festival’s honorary guests will be the Italian actress Giuliana De Sio, known to the Bulgarian audience from the world-famous series “Octopus”, where she stars together with Michele Placido amd the Italian film director, script-writer and bestselling author Federico Moccia, author of the novel “Three meters below the sky” (the novel was published in Bulgarian by Helikon publishing house), whose screen version under the same title has become an international bestseller.
The films to be presented at ”Lumière Lidl” cinema and “Dom na kinoto” include: „Un Natale al Sud“ (“Christmas in the South”), „Nonc’è campo“ (“No effects”), „Seimaistatas ulla Luna?“ (“Have you been on the Moon?”), „Matrimonioal Sud“(“Marriage in the South”), „Lacenadi Natale“(“Christmas Dinner”), „Chim’havisto?“ (“Who saw me?”), „Lorochi? (“Who?”), „Laguerradeicafoni“(“The war of the failures”).
On June 14th a Memorandum of Cooperation will be signed by Foundation “Apulia Film Commission” and the National Film Center in the presence of representatives of Bulgarian and Italian institutions, which will make possible the production of film co-productions between the region of Puglia and Bulgaria.

The festival is realized within the framework of the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the European Union, of the first instalment of the “Fare Cinema” initiative – Week of the Italian cinema around the world, promoted by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the annual “Italian festival in Bulgaria”, organized by организиран от ICE – Sofia Agency.
The third installment of the festival of Italian cinema in Bulgaria continues the tradition of other major cultural and artistic events, organized in the past years by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria.
