IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival

From 1st to 7th December 2017, the movie theater Vlaykova will host the International Short Film Festival IN THE PALACE. The shows start every evening at 20.00 hours and the entrance is free.

The project is part of the Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia Municipality 2017 and is supported by the Mobility Program of Sofia Municipality and the European Commission's Erasmus + Program. The event marks the start of a long cycle of film initiatives during the EU Presidency of the Council of the EU in the capital with a focus on audience involvement and education of audiences and creating a critical society in Sofia - creative “City of Film” of UNESCO.

In January 2018, IN THE PALACE will start working actively with the schools in the country within the international initiative Teaching European History through Cinema, supported by the Culture Program of Sofia Municipality and the MEDIA sub-program of Creative Europe framework programme of the European Commission.

The project focuses on film literacy and cinema education with the main objective of raising public awareness of European film heritage, while at the same time increasing the contribution of European films and their use in the field of education and, in particular, for teaching European history. The initiative will involve 1000 students and 40 teachers from 20 schools in intensive modules of film shows and discussions in each of the partner countries: Bulgaria, Italy, Ireland, Romania and Slovenia. In the finals of the educational program, the participants will compete in an international competition for original video-essays, which they will produce, mentored by tutors and their teachers.
