Back Balkan Hackathon 2018

On 27 and 28 of June in Sofia Tech Park - Sofia, coders from all Balkan countries will encode the European digital future.

The Balkan Hackathon is under the auspices of the Commissioner for Digital Economy and Digital Society, Maria Gabriel, the Minister of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency, Lilyana Pavlova and the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova.
The event is organized jointly by the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality, State e-Government Agency, the Sofia Development Association, Webit Foundation and Sofia Tech Park.

The Balkan Hackathon brings together the best coders (students, youths, start-ups, designers, IT amateurs and professionals) from all Balkan countries to propose prototype solutions to the challenges facing Europe's digital future and digital connectivity on the Balkans. Anyone who thinks how to improve online government tools, to ensure privacy and security for citizens in a connected world, to make technology open and accessible to all, regardless of location, age, gender, and profession, will compete for serious money prizes provided by Mtel, Sofia Municipality and the EC Representation in Bulgaria.

The winning team will receive money prize and an invitation by Commissioner Maria Gabriel to participate in the events during the Code Week 2018 in Brussels.

The main challenge of the twenty-four hour hackathon will be digital divide: how to ensure a future of Europe, in which no citizen will feel digitally excluded. Only a month after the EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia and within the framework of the Bulgarian EU Presidency, Balkan coders will offer their solutions for European connectivity.

English will be the working language of the Balkan Hackathon. More details about the conditions, challenges and the agenda can be found on the Hackathon site: www.balkanhackathon.eu

The deadline for registration is June 1, 2018.

The Balkan Hackathon 2018: Bridging the Digital Borders will take place with the support of MOBILTEL and the partnership of Upnetix, Dreamix and the Software University.
