The Mayor of Sofia - an Executive Body

The mayor of Sofia municipality is Mrs. Jordanka Fandakova.

Sofia Municipal Council has chosen 9 deputy mayors. They are: Mrs. Julia Nenkova - Deputy Mayor for Legality, Coordination and Control, Doncho Barbalov - Deputy Mayor for Finance,    Deputy Mayor for Public Order, Security and Disaster Protection, Mrs. Irina Savina - Deputy Mayor for Investments and Construction, Mrs. Maria Boyadjiyska - Deputy Mayor for Ecology, Environment and Land Reform, Mrs. Albena Atanasova - Deputy Mayor for Health Care, Integration of Disabled People and Social Activities, Mr. Todor Chobanov - Deputy Mayor for Culture, Education, Sport and Prevention of Adductions, Mr. Lyubomir Hristov - Deputy Mayor for Transport. The Chief Architect of Sofia, Mr. Petar Dikov, has the status of deputy mayor for architecture.Mr.

The general coordination and control of the activity of the administration is in the capacity of the Municipality Secretary, Mrs. Ralitsa Stoyanova.

The mayor, the deputy mayors and the secretary cannot participate in the governing bodies of political parties and cannot conduct commercial activities during the period of their mandate, in accordance with the Trade law. The mayor participates in the meetings of the Sofia municipal Council and has the right to vote.

Functions of the Mayor

The major functions of the mayor of Sofia is the management of the entire executive activity of the municipality. He governs and coordinates the activities of the specialised bodies, and is in charge of the maintenance of social order. He organises and conducts activities for the defence of the population against disasters and emergencies. The mayor organises the execution of decisions of the Municipal Council and reports to its members. He is also in charge of execution of the state budget and the tasks following the laws and acts of the President and the Council of the Ministers. The mayor maintains relations between the political parties, social organisations and movements on the one hand and the other bodies of the self-government on the other, both in the country and abroad.

The mayor represents the municipality before physical and juridical persons and before the court.
