  • In 1985, 1987 and 1988 he received Certificates of Gratitude;
  • In 2002 he was awarded the Sign of Honor (Third Degree) for his concrete essential contribution in performing his professional duties with outstanding importance in the area of countering crime, maintenance of public order and security in the Republic of Bulgaria;
  • He was awarded the Sign of Honor (Second Degree) for demonstrated high professionalism and guaranteeing the security and public order during the visit of the President of the Russian Federation Mr. Vladimir Putin in March 2003;

  • He was awarder a Medal of Honor of the French Police on behalf of the President of France and on behalf of the Minister of the Interior, Internal Security and Local Liberties;
  • He was awarded a Medal for Operational Friendship and Cooperation by the Deputy Director of the Federal Security Service of Russia;

  • In January 2004 he was awarded a Certificate by the Director of Europol Mr. Jurgen Storbeck for extremely important achievements and essential contribution in the field of countering false Euros;
  • He also received a Certificate from the Ministry of the Interior and the Directorate General of the Turkish National Police for his outstanding contribution to the development of bilateral cooperation between Bulgarian and Turkish Police in combating organized crime and corruption;
  • Lieutenant General Borissov was awarded a Certificate of appreciation for outstanding contribution in the field of countering drug-related crime by the Drug Enforcement Administration under the US Department of Justice.
  • He was awarded Commander of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, by the President of the Italian Republic - 13.06.2006. That Order is being hand over to foreign citizens who have significantly contributed to the development of bilateral relations between Italy and their respective countries.
Additional information
  • Upon invitations extended by the respective special services, he visited USA, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of Spain, Belgium, Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands (the Europol headquarters), Romania (the Special Task Force on Drug Trafficking), Greece and Turkey, whereupon he contributed to the very good level of cooperation in performing joint operations aimed at disclosing crimes related to trafficking in human beings and motor vehicles, drugs, illegal printing facilities and distributors of counterfeited currency and credit cards, smuggling, etc.
  • All special services and Europol have expressed their gratitude towards Lieutenant General Borissov for the good results achieved in joint operations and his essential personal contribution, which has in turn contributed to the positive image of our country related to our accession to the European Union and NATO.
  • Lieutenant General Borissov has initiated significant efforts at countering corruption within the Ministry of the Interior aiming at "cleaning our own yard"; with his personal contribution he has succeeded in motivating the staff of the Ministry in order to attack organized crime decisively, which contributed essentially to enhancing the prestige of the institution and gaining back public confidence in the police.
After his appointment as a Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, Lieutenant General Borissov has been donating his monthly salary, as well as his additional allowance benefit, to the children of policemen who lost their lives while performing their professional duties. Together with the ex-Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden H. E. Mr. Sten Ask three charity football matches between the staff of the Ministry of the Interior and representatives of the diplomatic missions, were organized and held under their auspices in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. A total of 169 thousand Levs were collected and given to the children of policemen who lost their lives while performing their professional duties, which has left unforgettable traces in the minds of these children, alongside with real care for them. Three free camps for children were organized under his auspices (a summer camp in Nessebar and a spring vacation in Pamporovo). The whole sum of money donated by Lieutenant General B. Borissov to the children in the period from 1 September 2001 until present amounts to over 400 thousand Levs.
